A portfolio site with stable content and an unstable appearance. The Regenerate button switches between a curated library of complete visual systems; Back to normal restores the canonical version.
I did this because I was thinking about decentralization of content. We’re exiting the Gutenberg parentheses, so content no longer has to “scale”. Generative AI can generae infinite versions of the same site.
While I liked this idea, I decided against actually generating new sites at the click of a button – this would have seemed wasteful. But I wanted to give visitors of my site a playful experience, so I generated lots of versions of my site that progressively get weirder – including a playable undersea-adventure – and put them all online.
I had lots of fun with this and learned tons about web design. And how hard it is. And how often AI still fails – with humor, with good design, but also with basic php, CSS or JavaScript.
