Judith Botler

A feminist Twitter bot that answered misogyny—and was blocked by Twitter within half an hour.

Created for International Women’s Day in 2017, Judith Botler searched Twitter for misogynistic language and responded with feminist interventions. The first version was blocked within thirty minutes.

That failure became the point: Twitter could tolerate a steady stream of misogynistic abuse, but detected and stopped the automated criticism almost immediately. A revised version shared feminist reporting and responded when directly mentioned.

The project was shortlisted for the Alternativer Medienpreis 2017.
